Where to stay in Singapore by MRT station

Singapore’s rail network makes it practical to compare accommodation and attractions by station rather than by broad district. The useful distinction is often whether a station offers a direct trip or requires an interchange.

Choose for the journeys you will repeat

Bugis

East-West + Downtown

A mix of East-West and Downtown Line journeys

Trade-off: Bugis is not on the North-South Line. Compare City Hall or Orchard when repeated Orchard trips matter more than Downtown Line access.

City Hall

East-West + North-South

Combining Orchard trips with the East-West corridor

Trade-off: It is not a Downtown Line station. Compare Bugis when most of your planned stops use that line rather than choosing City Hall for its name alone.

Chinatown

North-East + Downtown

HarbourFront and Downtown Line destinations

Trade-off: Orchard is not on either of those two lines, so compare the transfer against a North-South Line base when Orchard is a daily destination.

Dhoby Ghaut

North-South + North-East + Circle

An itinerary spread across three rail corridors

Trade-off: More lines do not automatically make a hotel more convenient. It has no East-West Line stop, and the walk inside an interchange is separate from a hotel's street-level station distance.

Orchard

North-South + Thomson-East Coast

Repeated Orchard visits with North-South or Thomson-East Coast trips

Trade-off: An Orchard base is not automatically the best match for HarbourFront or Downtown Line trips. Compare the actual route and transfers with Chinatown or Bugis.

Lavender

East-West

A stay organised around the East-West Line

Trade-off: For Downtown Line destinations you need a different connection; nearby Bugis adds that line. Do not assume Lavender hotels are cheaper without comparing the same dates and room conditions.

Before you book

Map the airport, the places you expect to visit most, and the return journey to your accommodation. Then compare stations that keep those trips direct or make the transfer simple.

Check your arrival, not just your daytime trips

Changi Airport's rail connection requires a change at Tanah Merah for the East-West Line or at Expo for the Downtown Line. Check the operator's route and last connecting train for your arrival; being near an MRT station does not guarantee a late-night airport journey.
